The short of it is, "Thou shalt not kill" (Exodus 20:13) includes self harm in any manner. Risking one's life or even the mind is something we shall be held responsible for. Irritability, including lashing out upon innocent people is a sin. Being moody and negatively impacting those around is a sin. Gluttony is a sin. Yet, the government says it is safe. Sure, there is no risk of dying in this case so that makes it safe, but there is a risk of losing eternal life! That is not safe.
