COMMENT: "Put away the strange gods that [are] among you, and be clean, and change your garments:" (Genesis 35:2) "And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which [were] in their hand, and [all their] earrings which [were] in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which [was] by Shechem" (Genesis 35:4).

This is an example of why God says to put off all of the jewelry and not allow any of it. Humans just do not stay within limits. Tiny earrings cannot be allowed because humans just cannot control themselves. That is why jewelry is reserved for Heaven instead when hearts will be converted.
