"They are using the Bible, as Social Gospel leaders once did, to argue in various ways that Christian deeds are more important than creeds and that unfettered capitalism 'thrives on selfish impulses that Christian teaching condemns.'" Basically, the article depicts where Jesus is inserted into social issues, and then many assumptions are made. The focus was the union strike. They concluded that Jesus would be for the workers, and He would join the picket line. So, if the owners were operating properly, not greedy, but their was a strike, Jesus would be against the owners? That is an assumption. The reality of things are that Jesus would stay out of social issues. In one social situation, Jesus stayed out of it by stating, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's" (Mark 12:17). In another social situation, Jesus responded with, "Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?" (Luke 12:14). And our creed is the Bible, as in, "good deeds" are not the same as "obedience". And Jesus says, "If ye love me, keep my commandments" (John 14:15) among other things. "Good deeds" are in the eyes of the beholder. "Good deeds" are confused with kindness. It is a kind act to allow marriages outside of man and woman, but that is an abomination to God. The social gospel is sold in such a way that it sounds what Jesus would be for but it is the most deceptive message from Satan that is sweeping away many in the church. It is not as simple as Sunday verses Sabbath, good versus evil, right versus wrong. Who in their right mind would be against "good deeds"? Well, unless a person realizes the agenda behind "good deeds", people are being easily deceived.
