Claiming the child was a good kid to suggest that we should overlook this "mistake" is just wrong. Hitler was a good kid too. Sending underage sex pictures is one thing, but extortion on top of it makes it all the worse.

Revelation 14:7 is last day call to "Fear God". The Bible says, "The fear of the LORD [is] to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate" (Proverbs 8:13). Trying to downplay the evil like it was just a simple mistake, trying to downplay prosecuting the extortionist because he has a bright future in politics, etc. is definitely not in the fear of God.

And then what makes things triply worse is the fact that this happened at a Christian school. This is what we get when we make grace all covering, even while sinning. It is nothing more than "turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness" (Jude 1:4), as is predicted to happen in these days.
