Chick-fil-A Is Latest Target of the Bud Light Boycott Movement

Article Date - 05/30/2023

There are early signs that Chick-fil-A could become the latest target of a potential boycott campaign.

Fresh off of their successful boycotts against Bud Light (BUD) - Get Free Report and Target, (TGT) - Get Free Report some of the louder voices on the far-right side of social media are now targeting Chick-fil-A, the conservative-leaning fast food chain that is famously closed on Sundays in honor of the Christian day of rest.

Twitter user Joey Mannarino pointed out in a tweet on May 30 that Chick-fil-A could be added to the boycott list, as the company has "just hired a VP of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion".

This comes on the tail end of the boycott of Bud Light after it hired transgender spokesperson Dylan Mulvaney, followed by an uproar around Target's pro-LGBTQ+ clothing and the North Face for a Pride ad.

While Bud Light and its parent company Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD) - Get Free Report have taken a significant hit to sales this month due to that ill-fated advertising campaign, there are signs that the uproar against the brand has crescendoed.

Today's boycott discussion has led to the unearthing of an old video of Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy shining the shoes of a black man.

Despite what the caption says, Cathy never said that "all white people should get on their knees and shine black peoples shoes" -- the Community Notes team apparently hasn't had the time to fact-check the tweet yet.

While some are calling for a boycott, it remains to be seen whether those voices actually have the ear of the people.

At the very least, we'll get a couple of good memes out of the whole thing.
